TradePoint & Panalpina First to File Paperless In-Bond Air AMS
In early
July 2004 Panalpina and its in-house airfreight provider ASB-Air in Miami combined
with TradePoint Systems to complete the first successful electronic transmission
of in-bond shipment data to US Customs and Border Protection (CBP) for Air
AMS (Automated Manifest System) allowing for immediate CBP clearance
of in-bond/transit shipments and effectively making in-bonds paperless.
Air AMS allows participants to "arrive" an in-bond shipment and to
file in-bond, permit to proceed, and local transfers electronically. Notifications
of releases, in-bond authorizations, general order, permit to proceed, and local
transfer authorization are obtained upon flight departure or arrival from the
last foreign port. Amendments to any air waybill information can also be transmitted
electronically through AMS. Friday, August 13, 2004 was the first CBP compliance
deadline for Air AMS.
This is a major change in our industry and ASB-Air in Miami are very proud
to be the very first company to achieve this, said John Boyd, Head of
Hub/Local Capacity Management ASB-Air Miami. This achievement eliminates
a multitude of processes expediting the clearance of freight for our customers.
We will continue to work every step of the way with CBP to ensure that our customers
are ready in advance with all mandated changes, said Ken Halle, Chief
Operating Officer at TradePoint Systems. We pride ourselves on our customers
successes with not only being the first, but to develop programs that decrease
the release time and improve global trade. TradePoint will remain at the forefront
of all new programs associated with ACE, AES and C-TPAT."
